Formulation of Russia’s foreign policy towards China and India

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the new foreign policy formulated by the Russian government. Moscow’s new foreign policy aims to counter Western hybrid warfare. Russian media RT reported that President Putin approved this new foreign policy with special emphasis on the fact that Western powers are trying to undermine Russia in the Ukraine conflict. The country’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said of the new foreign policy that Russia’s view is that Russia sees Western powers as a real threat. Foreign policy has been changed to deal with it.

In this regard, the Russian President said, Russia is making fundamental changes in its foreign policy as a result of major changes in the international arena.

Earlier in 2016, Russia announced its foreign policy. At that time, the main goals of the country’s foreign policy were the fight against terrorism, the strengthening of international cooperation, the presence of Russia in the global arena and the protection of the sovereignty of the Russian nation.

Russian forces launched an attack on neighboring Ukraine in February last year. Even after a year of the war, Putin’s administration could not reach the desired goal.

On the other hand, the United States and the West have declared against Russia on the side of Ukraine in the war. Besides imposing sanctions one after another, they are trying to corner Russia in various ways. In such a context, Russia announced a new foreign policy.

Analysts say that in the changed situation, Russia has formulated its foreign policy towards China and India instead of Europe. Apart from this, according to the new foreign policy, Russia will try to strengthen relations with Muslim countries as well as Iran.
